Sessions
This workshop offers a brief introduction to Makaton. Lasting 1 ½- 2 hours and covering around 40 core signs and symbols and an additional 12 signs and symbols relevant to your setting or needs. Taster workshops can be offered to Early Years settings, dentists, banks even Santa and his helpers! Please get in touch to discuss your needs.
Level 1
This can be delivered over a full day or split over two days.
No experience is necessary to complete Level 1. This workshop offers an introduction to Makaton and the skills needed for effective communication. Stages 1 and 2 of the Makaton Core Vocabulary are covered. You will learn approximately 125 signs and symbols, which will set you up beautifully at the start of your Makaton journey.
A workshop manual is included covering all signs and symbols taught and a certificate of attendance.
Level 2
Level 2 builds on the skills and knowledge developed in Level 1. Signs and symbols from Stages 3 and 4 of the Core Vocabulary are taught along with the rest of the Additional Stage. Presentations cover the research supporting the use of signs with adults and children with communication difficulties and ways to support the use of signs and symbols in your setting.
A workshop manual is included covering all signs and symbols taught and a certificate of attendance.
Level 4
The Level 4 workshop revisits the signs and symbols learned during levels 1, 2 and 3. You will complete the Core Vocabulary in this workshop and learn the signs and symbols covering Stages 7 and 8. This workshop builds on the skills that you will have acquired in Level 3 and goes into more depth regarding interpretation, translation, and adapting your communication.
Know & Grow
The Know and Grow workshop offers the opportunity to gain and understanding of Makaton and learn Makaton signs related to Christian teachings. The workshop will also explore techniques which can be used to support to make worship accessible to all.
